Ladies and Gentlemen, The Intern Game

So! I decided to sign up for Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association's Intern Game (as many of you have read from twitter and facebook). I decided to compete for Space150's awesome program for a media intern. I really like what this advertising agency is doing, I mean not many agencies could come up with a project to put advertisements on the moon :) so cool! The other internships were with Weber Shandwick, The Nerdery, EatonGolden, and Clockwork. There were 135 applicants that decided to partake in this contest, and then 3 finalists were picked to go on stage at The Fine Line to battle it out for the internship.

I found out on Monday that I was one of the three finalists for the Space150 internship and I was pretty stoked. I had noooo idea what the questions were going to be because it was a mystery until I got on stage. When we showed up it was set up like The Love Connection and the props were great. I had a couple PR friends there to cheer me on and I met some cool people at the event. Jason Derusha hosted and he was a great/hilarious host.

Space150 asked me 3 questions:
1. If you had to figure out a way to fill a 747 up with tennis balls how would you do it?
-this was a hard question, and I was the first to go :/. I said I would calculate a mathematical equation, and my guess of amount was 50,000 (oops) haha lets just say that was a hard one to answer.
2. You come into work hungover the next day, how many drinks did you have?
-I said "I don't remember" (thought it was a funny answer)
3. Whats one good thing about excel and one bad thing about powerpoint?
-I said I loved graphs because it's easier for people to understand and it gets your point across better. Worst part of powerpoint is when people put hard to read font or colors on a slide and you can't read the presentation.

Overall, I tried my best but I didn't win the contest :( I thought it was awesome that I was picked as a finalist, but in the end it wasn't a match. I was given many congratulations, and some "you were entertaining" comments from people, so in the end it was a great experience.

I definitely recommend MIMA's events because they are a great way to meet future employers and peers.

Here are some pictures from the event!

This week I find out if I got a marketing internship, so I'm crossing my fingers for that!

Target Field Air :) back to the grind!

Alright, So I went to my first game of the season today. It was supposed to be raining and 50 but the twins seriously have a lucky weather streak at that damn field because it wasn't raining at all... but I will admit it was pretty chilly. I got to see our new season seats, which I am extremely excited about because we got more games this year, which means I get twice as many tickets as last year.. since I will be graduating soon!!! (my next game is the 11th). Love our new seats because I get a great view of homeruns and of Justin making some great outs at first. One thing I was upset about was I couldn't seem to find where you purchase these new "walk a taco" things and I really wanted to try one :( we walked all over the park but couldn't find them. AND my joe joe wasn't playing, how come every time I go to a game he doesn't play or DH...ahhhh. Soooo we lost the game thanks to Liriano, but overall I loved being back at target field... I wish I could live there. It was nice to walk in and feel that familiar breeze, and breathe in smells of beer and hot dogs. LOVE. I might have skipped class butttt it's Twins season! lol. Next game is May 11th and I hope to bring someone special to the game :)))) it's another afternoon one but lets hope they win this time. I already have the day planned out: Pregame at Kierans, then game, then north loop after?? ummm I'm so excited!

Hope you all can make it to a game this year!

BLAST from the past

Do you ever listen to music from another era and think hmmm man that was a good song? Well this happens to me a lot, not quite sure why but some songs from the past are just too good to ever delete from your ipod. One of my interview questions from a recent job interview was "whats the most embarrassing song on your ipod?" I really didn't have an answer for him, I'm truly not embarrassed by anything on my ipod because ever song is amazing. The fact that I know word for word of almost all Neil Diamond songs is a little embarrassing, but I consider it a gift (or brainwashing from my mother).

There are some artists that totally remind me of my parents... Neil Young was one and I constantly remember it being played in my house, and every time I hear his distinct voice I think of being back home. Bruce Springsteen... Def. an obsession in the Brugman household, and I def. remember my mom flipping out when they got tickets and then lost them on the phone cause they got disconnected hahaha, but hey Baby we were born to run!! Mr Bob Dylan reminds me of my dad, cause when I was a kid he always played his music and I never understood why he thought his voice was good, thank god I grew up because now I understand EVERYTHING, it's pretty much amazing. Of course the Beatles were played often, but that's a given I guess. Neil Diamond was a frequent played cd, I remember singing and dancing with my mom to "she got the way to move me."
The Eagles were popular at or house, though I only remember singing along to "Hotel California."

Talking Heads.. no words to describe this band, I remember hearing "burning down the house" for the first time when my dad played it and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. This was my favorite kind of punk rock/pop to listen to because it was so weird but so good at the same time, "And She Was" is still one of my favorite songs to this day. My favorite memory is when I was looking through my dads cds in the basement when I was young, and I found the Talking Heads cd "Little Creatures" and the album cover really creeped me out so I wanted my dad to play it.

still creeps me out lol

Pink Floyd, The Who, and ROXY music were played often, yet I still don't quite understand what ROXY music actually is, I should probably download it one of these days :). I remember listening to "another brick in the wall" by Pink Floyd and then asking my dad, "does this mean I should drop out of school?" where he replied, "no, that's not the point of the song." lol

The Stones were one of my favorites, I loved me some Mick Jagger (and I still do)

Sometimes I feel bad for people who didn't have parents that loved music as much as I do. Most of my classic rock favorites are based on the fact that I heard them consistently when I was a kid. Last year my room mate and I were watching TV and some late night classic rock music special dvd came on and we literally knew every song that came on. Me and Abi def. had parents who loved music, and we still remember allll of the songs hahaha. That was a good time :)

Although my favorite music is Alternative and Punk Rock, I owe my music tastes to my classic rock favorites, and they will ALWAYS be my favorites!
Enjoy this video I found on YouTube!

The "New" tattoo

Alright, after much discussion with friends and loved ones I decided to change my infamous tat idea. The original idea is extremely amazing BUT I like the new one much better and everyone I ask likes the second option.

Original Idea: "Tomorrow may rain so I'll follow the sun" by the beatles of course. When I came up with this I was going through many different things/obstacles in my life and this particular beatles song was my favorite one to listen to at the time. I was naiive and a sophomore I believe, not caring about school and meeting ALL kinds of mr. wrongs. It's always about making things better and staying positive. Well, that was like 2 years ago anddd now I have a much more simple yet meaningful idea.

New idea: "Let it be" yes this seems cliche BUT this song is so powerful and meaningful that I just can't seem to NOT get this tattooed on my body. It describes everything I have been through lately, and it's optimistic of the future. Sometimes in life there are those burning things in your soul that you just have to let go of and "let it be".. perfect huh? well I think now is the ideal time to get this tattoo, not just because of my beatles obsession, but because every time I look down and see it on my foot I will be reminded of the good and the bad and how I overcame it all.

Currently, with so many good things happening in my life (including interview with St. Paul Saints. yay!) I can't help but get this awesome tattoo, and I will be looking for suggestions on a place if anyone has any!!

Songs and Artists I'm into right now!

Ok, so this is long overdue, and there is a ton of good music out right now so here are my recommendations..
#1 "Everything you wanted" by Kele (last post was about this song) super good, huge fan of bloc party so I love his solo stuff. Brings out some true feelings
#2 "Under cover of darkness" By The Strokes, sooo anticipating this new album! March 22nd, I am also a fan of Mr. Julian Casablancas and I love his lyrics.
#3 "Pyro" by Kings of Leon. This song gives me chills and it's great to sing along to. I have always been a fan of them since the early days but I really feel this song is one of my favorites.
#4 "Not in Love" by Crystal Castles and featuring only the best man ever: ROBERT SMITH. This song totally brings me back to Robert's music from the cure.... man I miss that kind of music.
#5 "Young Blood" by The Naked Famous. Ok these guys are going to be huge soon, promise! They sound exactly like Passion Pit, so of course I have to love them. Ive sent this to some friends and they like it a lot and it's definitely fun to dance to.
#6 "Precious Stone" by Pete Yorn. He was just in mpls and I heard the show was great. Love this song, and I love his voice.
#7 "Bloodbuzz Ohio" By The National. Ok, this came out awhile ago but I love this song soooooo much and I have been listening to it a lot lately.
#8 "Changing" by The Airborne Toxic Event. Seriously love these guys and this song came out in Feb. I have loved everything they come out with, and they remind me of the replacements soooo I was sold when I heard this.
#9 "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" by Panic! at the disco. My boy is back, Mr. Urie and of course the drummer, Spencer. Ive met them and they were awesome so I have some sort of loyalty towards them. This song sounds great and I'm sure it will be a hit for those teens on mtv haha. No matter how old I get I will still love this band :)
#10 "Airplanes" by Local Natives. I am beginning to like this band, and this song is catchy and I like the lyrics. Wish I could have seen them when they were at First Ave
#11 "Sail" by Awolnation. Such a good song! just added this because I forgot :/ lol

Something I want right now: this amazing dress from Modcloth.com
